In the summer of 2005 we travelled through Borgarfjörður valley. We stayed at the Fosshotel Reykholt (www.fosshotel.is), which is approximately 120 kilometres from Reykjavik. Borgarfjordur is a very good agricultural place and hence there are many farms there, some of which can be seen on the pictures. Reykholt was the home of Snorri Sturluson, Iceland greatest Saga writer, poet and historian. Reykholt is still one of Iceland’s main historical and cultural sites. There you will find 2 beautiful churches, Snorri’s natural hot pool, Snorralaug, and Snorrastofa, an exhibit of Snorri’s writing and research centre for medieval studies. A few minutes drive from Reykholt are the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Hraunfossar are beautiful falls and cascades that emerge from beneath a lava flow. Barnafoss which means the children’s waterfall is nearby where the river roars through a narrow gorge. The top of the glacier Eiríksjökull can also be seen on 2 pictures. We also drove to Húsafell 20 kilometres from Reykholt where there is a swimming pool, camping area as well as many summer houses popular by Icelanders. The hot springs of Deildartunguhver are also nearby Reykholt.
The Borgarfjörður picture gallery shows pictures from our tour.
