Tounge Twisting yet Delicious
Don't let the tongue twisting name of Sjavarkallarinn allow you to miss the chance to wrap your taste buds around the some of the best fusion seafood in town at the Seafood Cellar. Combining the freshest quality Icelandic ingredients and exotic spices, the chefs serve up breathtaking culinary art in a vibrant buzzy atmosphere that has made this one of the capitals hottest restaurants.
The restaurant boasts a historic setting: the floor is actually laid with the same stone as Alþing, the parliament house. The rough stone walls are transformed with white net curtains and subtle lighting into a stylish yet informal lunch venue or alternatively a great evening setting. Our appetizers arrived in a blaze of colour - salmon, pomegranate, orchid flowers and an explosion of tastes on the tongue, melt-in-the-mouth warm Icelandic lobster and delicious mixed sashimi served with wild rice and chili jam. Coconut, mango, venison with pomegranate mint sauce attacked our senses from all sides. For entrees we mixed a five fish plate with rare warm duck, mushroom mash, served on volcano patterned glazed dishes. From wines at fair prices, comparable across Iceland to high end names that wont break the bank, we found a well rounded wine list covering Europe and the new world numbering more than 100 labels.
With fine attention and every detail of our meal thought through the service was attentive, prompt and we were well looked after by friendly staff who knew their way around the menu.
