The Best of New Nordic Cuisine
VOX restaurant, a recent addition to the flora of Icelandic restaurants, certainly lives up to the highest expectations. Located at four star Hotel Nordica - a hotel praised for its elegant design, this world-class restaurant offers gourmet food in a sophisticated environment.
The interior at VOX is an excellent example of modern Scandinavian style - minimalist, elegant and yet practical. The cuisine is modern and focuses on New Nordic. Cuisine, placing emphasis on fresh Icelandic and Scandinavian sources on the menus. The Chef de Cuisine, Stefán Viðarsson makes every gourmet dish an experience the customer will not forget.
We sampled the seasonal menu recommended by the head waiter. Foie gras and salted lamb, served with spiced chutney of blueberries, a jelly of apples and apple syrup opened our taste buds. The dish was accompanied by a glass of perfectly chilled Rosemont G.T.R, 2004. This was followed by lightly cured flounder with fresh lumpfish roes mixed with smoked cream cheese, served with dill oil, watercress and chives, accompanied harmoniously by Montes Fume Blanc, 2004. It is safe to say that this dish took us to a new level dining, which will be extremely hard to exceed. The main course was Icelandic beef tenderloin served Bourgogne style in Pinot Noir red wine sauce with Rosso di Montaccino, 2002. A good selection of French cheeses in honey and nut bread rounded the meal. The evening was perfected with Icelandic skyr mousse and ice cream in rock bramble berry sauce and jelly, served together with Rivesaltes Hors'd age.
The meal was served by professional waiters, who take pride in making the evening perfect. Their knowledge about the food and the selection of wines available was commendable.
VOX restaurant is certainly a place not to be missed by connoisseurs of great food and wine. VOX bistro serves lighter meals and offers a lunch buffet on weekdays in a relaxed ambience.
