Gljúfrasteinn was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (1902-1998). In the reception is a multimedia presentation about the life and work of Laxness. Audiotours are available in Icelandic, English, German, Swedish and Danish. During a lifetime that spanned nearly an entire century, Laxness, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature 1955, wrote over 60 books embracing a wide range of literary styles. His books have been translated into 43 languages. Museum hours Summer June – August 31 Every day 9.00 – 17.00 Winter September – May Tuesdays to Sundays 10.00 – 17.00
